How Is Your Fruit?

James 3:17 says: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”

God wants to bless His people and guide us into a life of not only faithfulness, but also fruitfulness. We can’t just receive His blessings and hoard them for ourselves. He wants us to be a blessing to others.

If we are walking closely with Him, then we should bear the fruit of those seven characteristics James speaks about. In turn we are to become a channel of blessing to others, whether in our own families, our neighborhoods, workplace, or simply whomever God places in our path.

I often think about the fig tree in Matthew, chapter 21. Jesus approached it for some food, but all it had was pretty leaves and no fruit. He spoke to it and said: “No longer will there be any fruit from you.” At once the fig tree withered.

He wants each one of us to grow spiritually and bear fruit to be that channel of blessing to others. I don’t ever want to just be about bearing a bunch of leaves that may be pretty to look at but under the surface there’s nothing of value. I want to bear meaty fruit that is of value to others. I’m sure you do too. Don’t neglect your time with Him today. Be filled with His Holy Spirit, grow fruit that will be useful to others for His glory and His kingdom, and praise His holy name!

Love & Blessings,
